Although the PKF — Prague Philharmonia has developed over the 30 years of its existence into an orchestra that excels in music of any period and genre, one era has been its forte from the very beginning: Classicism. Under the baton of its founder and Chief Conductor Jiří Bělohlávek, the Prague Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra specialized in the music of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven as well as Schubert, the youngest of them.

At the same time, there was no shortage of Czech music from this era either: the most frequently played works included the charming Symphony in D major by Jan Václav Hugo Voříšek (aka Johann Hugo Worzischek), which the PKF still plays from the sheet music with Bělohlávek’s notes.

Voříšek’s composition will not be the only piece this evening that has left an indelible mark on the orchestra’s history. Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in E flat major was heard at the PKF’s first ever public concert in 1994. The solo parts will be performed by the PKF — Prague Philharmonia’s core players: one of them, Tomáš Františ, also appeared as soloist at the above-mentioned premiere concert.

Christoph-Mathias Mueller, a Swiss conductor born in Peru and winner of the prestigious OPUS Klassik Award for 2020, will take the baton.

This anniversary concert of the PKF - Prague Philharmonia is filmed by Czech Television.
